ON Saturday, September 24, Kalagadi Manganese reached a major milestone of sinking the main shaft to 281m underground. According to the Project Director, Thulo Malumise, ―this is a major milestone on the project.
The main shaft has reached pro- duction level and the ventilation and main shafts have been finally connected. As a result, a second evacuation route on the mine has been established. It is expected that by mid- October the loading level of 317m underground on theventilation shaft would have been reached.
Also, the design work on all mine surface infrastructure has progressed to about 85% , and construction progress of mine stores, lamp & crush, surface workshop and offices has progressed to about 50%. The expected completion of the surface infrastructure is February 2012
